Operating Services
NTNU IT has got an operations center where both infrastructure and expertise are scaled in order to provide operating services to NTNU.
We use the ITIL framework in order to achieve the best possible quality of service. Operating services are controlled by a Service Level Agreement (SLA, see right column) entered into with each unit.
The following operating services are offered:

There exist no final unified description of this service, because it will vary from system to system. In short, the service application operation is everything that is included in the operation of the platform the system is running on. This can be server operations, database operations, webserver operations etc.

Personel computers are central facilities in most workplaces today, and organizations usually rely on these being operative at any time. NTNU IT has got long experience in operation of PCs and has got the right expertise. We currently operate PCs to more than 700 employees at NTNU, and we have got capacity for even more!

NTNU IT uses standardized equipment and software, which allows for a very high accessibility and stability. We run the computers and make sure that they are always operative, obtain and install the software you want, order new equipment and additional gear etc.

NTNU IT can offer professional management of your server. The server is placed into one of our computer halls with access to cooling, UPS and power generators. After three years we replace it with a new one if desired.

Our backup service has got a large capacity (approx. 2 Petabyte) and can back up data on your server. All backup robots are placed in other computer halls than the data origin.

The primary purpose of the service is to ensure that NTNU's students and employees have got a proper network access, both fixed and wireless networks. This includes access to internal services as well as internet access.

NTNU is scattered in many locations of varying size. NTNU's computer network is available at all of these locations. Connectivity exists, in open access areas, meeting rooms, student work stations, auditoriums, employee facilities, and more.

Computer Hall Service
The Computer Hall Service allows you to put your IT equipment in one of NTNU IT's hardware halls. NTNU-IT's computer halls are well equipped to provide a high degree of uptime of all the equipment being placed there. NTNU IT has got two computer halls where you can rent space.

The Computer Hall Service allows you to put your IT equipment in one of NTNU IT's hardware halls. NTNU-IT's computer halls are well equipped to provide a high degree of uptime of all the equipment being placed there. NTNU IT has got two computer halls where you can rent space.
The computer halls have both got conventional power (electricity supply) and backup power (generators / UPS). Each rack is wired up with electricity supply and backup power. All machine halls have got sufficient cooling capacity, access control with alarm, fire alarm with early smoke detection, moisture sensors as well as temperature monitoring controlled by the central operations control.

Service Level Agreement - SLA
When you have a service provided by NTNU IT, we will always have an agreement, an SLA, as a basis. This regulates the price, uptime, routines for user / customer contact and so on - in brief all that is required for the service to be delivered optimally.
NTNU IT has a separate contract responsible in order to follow up a customer - to ensure what we agree upon is being delivered.
ITIL - Service Quallity
To achieve improvement in service quality with satisfaction at every stage, NTNU IT has chosen to use the ITIL framework. This is a highly recognized framework for IT operations processes based on "best practices", i.e. "perform work in a way that works and is recognized within the industry".
