Political economy deals with the interaction between politics and economics. Central elements are the relationship between markets and governments, the role of institutions, and interest groups influence. How do political institutions influence the utilization of natural resources and the resource curse? Why do soft budget constraints exist and persist? Has the composition of political assemblies any effects on economic policy and efficiency?
