Background and activities

Jorunn Sandvik  has  experience in bariatric surgery and other abdominal surgery as former consultant in abdominal surgergy at Ålesund Hospital. From 2017 she holds a position as PhD-student  exploring long time effects of gastric bypass and other bariatric surgery, and is located at Centre for Obesity research and innovation at St. Olavs Hospital.

The PhD-project focus on durability of positive effects of weight loss surgery in terms of remission of comorbidty and maintained weight loss, and the prevalence of vitamine/mineral deficiencies and other long term complication after these operations.

In addition to medical education she has studied Philosophy and Sosiology at lower level.
