Background and activities

My PhD project address the question of how Sámi identity markers, such as clothing, residence and lifestyle, contribute to establish, consolidate and change notions of cultural identity in the feature films "The Pathfinder" (Nils Gaup, 1987), "Minister of State" (Paul-Anders Simma, 1997), "Bázo" (Lars Göran Pettersson, 2003) and "The Kautokeino Rebellion" (Nils Gaup, 2008).

I have published an article on cultural stereotypes in Sámi film in "Films on Ice" (eds. Scott MacKenzie, Anna Westerståhl Stenport, 2015) and one forthcoming article on identity construction and multicultural Sámi documentaries in "Arctic Cinemas and the Documentary Ethos" (eds. Lilya Kaganovsky, Scott MacKenzie, Anna Westerståhl Stenport, forthcoming 2017).

My cand.philol degree from NTNU holds a thesis in film studies. For several years I have teached film and media studies at the Department for art and media studies at NTNU.
