Discipline / Area of work

Two of the main projects I am associated with as a technician in Immunology are (i) the Hunt Longitudinal Ankylosing spondylitis and Rheumatoid arthritis Study(HuLARS), og (ii) the Cardiac Surgery Outcome Study (CaSOS).

Expertise

DNA- and RNA-isolation, cloning, Northern blotting, ELISA, HPLC and real-time PCR (design and development).

2008 – 2011: Research Assistant; Beckman Coulter Biomedical Ltd. (BCBL); Galway, Ireland. Design and development of molecular diagnostic tests (real-time PCR) for the detection of clinically relevant pathogens.

2004-2006: Technician (Food analysis); Aqualab, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Microbiological testing i.e. enumeration and identification of bacteria, yeasts and moulds; Biochemical testing i.e. analysis of chemical contaminants by HPLC and ELISA methods.
