Research

Research at the Department of Modern Foreign Languages covers a range of academic topics within language, literature, culture and civilization in English-speaking, German-speaking and French-speaking areas, as well as European integration, culture and identity.

Research in foreign languages is occupied with human communication and interaction across linguistic and cultural borders. The approach to these questions varies: Linguistics at the Department of Modern Foreign Languages concentrate on structural and contrastive aspects of language, whereas research in literature and culture often explores various dimensions of aestetic and linguistic expressions.

The majority of research projects at the Department are individual, with researchers working independently in national and international networks. Larger research projects at the Department include "In the shadow of the Enlightenment", funded by the Norwegian Research Council , "Motion Encoding in Language", funded by "Den Nordiske samarbetsnämnden för samhällsforskning", and "Exhibiting Europe: The Construction of European Integration and Identity in the Musée de l'Europe" , funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
