Study progress
Doctoral students will work together with their subject groups at the Department, with supervisor(s) and with other doctoral students. Many will also work in co-operation with industry and with universities at home and abroad. Scientific work will be given the greatest possible freedom within the agreed formal framework.
Research work and publishing while studying is done in consultation with the supervisor(s). All data and results which are to be included in the study and which will be evaluated, must be openly accessible. Supervisors and students who encounter problems with confidentiality can contact Tore R. Jørgensen.

Examinations
PhD students have to register for exams in all subjects of their studies at STUDENTWEB. The examinations follow the regulations for doctoral studies and the examination rules.
Important regulations include:
- a grade of B or better is required in all subjects, including qualifying subjects
- it is not possible to resit an examination that is passed (e.g. grade C, D, or E), however if this is a subject at master level and a resit exam is arranged for, you have the opportunity to resit the exam. A resit exam is regarded as a retake.
- it is only possible to retake a passed exam once (i.e. grade A - E).
Changes to the time of the exam must be reported to/applied for to the faculty. Examinations in subjects that not are part of the study plan must be reported to the Examinations Office at the Department of Studies with a copy to the IME Faculty.
Changes to the subject plan
Permission must be sought for all changes to the subject plan such as topics and time of examinations. Contact your faculty for application forms. The applications forms should be filled, signed by the supervisor and sent to the faculty. Applications are dealt with on a regular basis. The purpose must be to improve the subject plan in relation to subject requirements, for example by including new subjects such as national research courses or courses at universities abroad which were not recognised when the study plan was drawn up. Upon recommendation from subject supervisors, such changes will normally be approved, as long as they do not:
- alter the total workload
- reduce the subject work load at doctoral level
- conflict with formal regulations
Leave of absence
Leace of absence may be granted for maternity/paternity leave, illness and for other reasons. Doctoral students must apply for both leave from their studies and leave from their employment. Contact the faculty for more information and application form.
Annual progress report
Doctoral students must submit a progress report on 1. March every year. Supervisors must submit their own report.
