Venue
The venue for the conference is Lysebu, Lysebuveien 12, 0790 Oslo, Phone 21 51 10 00.
The speakers should note that the lecture room has all the facilities they may want. However, the blackboard (or rather, whiteboard) is rather small,so we would recommend that you use overhead or slide presentations, possibly supplemented by the whiteboard.
All the guests with lap-tops will have free wireless internet connection; just pick up the username and password in the reception.
Activities at Lysebu
Lysebu has a swimming pool with a sauna and a gym room. If we get snow, Lysebu is located very close to nice ski trails.
Weather report
Unfortunately, due to an unusually warm autumn, there is still no snow in the area around Lysebu. We know many would like to go skiing during their time here, so we hope that we get some snow in the week leading up to the workshop. Here is an updated weather report.
How to get there
If you arrive by air to Oslo airport Gardermoen you may get from the airport to Lysebu by public transportation or taxi. If you are two or more, a taxi directly from the airport to Lysebu is as cheap or cheaper than any other transport alternative. When you get to the arrival hall (after having gone through customs) there will be a taxi counter 20-30 meters away (next to the Information counter). Ask them for the cheapest taxi to go to Lysebu. They will find the right taxi for you. You can pay with a credit or debit card. (If you need cash in Norwegian Crowns, there is a cash machine in the arrival hall.) You do not need to tip the taxi driver–if you do, do not tip more than 10%.
People travelling light with the DFDS ferry from Copenhagen may after arrival walk along the quay the 900 meters to Oslo S (the central railway station) and take the scenic trip with T-bane (metro) number 1 from there in the direction Frognerseteren. (Jernbanetorget = Oslo S.) Leave the metro at Voksenkollen station which is the last station before Frognerseteren and walk the 700 meters through the forest from the station to Lysebu (see map). If you use the metro, you need to buy and validate your ticket before entering the train! Also note that the platforms on this metro line are not always large enough for the newer 3-car-trains, so if you are in the last car you might need to go to the next car to exit the train. Here is the schedule of the metro.
The fastest way to get from Gardermoen to Oslo S by public transportation is using the airport express train. The price is 170,- (200,- if you don't buy your ticket in a ticket machine, but use a staffed ticket counter instead). From Oslo S you could take a taxi or use the T-bane (metro) to get to Voksenkollen as described above.
Arrival and departure times
The workshop will start with lunch on Sunday December 4th at 13.00, so try to arrive at Lysebu in time for this. The rooms are ready for check-in at 15.00 (some rooms perhaps before that time). The scientific part of the workshop ends right before dinner on Tuesday evening, but dinner on Tuesday and breakfast on Wednesday morning is included, so we hope everyone can stay until Wednesday morning. The breakfast ends at 9.00, and the rooms must be vacated no later than 11.00 on Wednesday.
