Research at the Department

Most of the research at the department is focused on neuroscience and mental health/psychiatry. The research comprises both basic neuroscience and clinical research. Our Centre of Excellence is the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience and Centre for the Biology of Memory. The department also has ongoing research within sense organs (eye, ear/nose/throat), neurosurgery, oral- and maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics and rheumatology.


NeuroscienceNeuroscience
Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system. The functions and diseases of the nervous system is the research focus of our Neuroscience group. Our Centre of Excellence is the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience and Centre for the Biology of Memory.

Mental healthMental Health, Psychiatry, Behavioural Medicine
Most people can suffer from mental illness or disorders during life. Our department includes a research group within the field Psychiatry and Behavioural Medicine.

NeurosurgeryNeurosurgery, Oral Surgery, Sense Organs
Within the neurosurgery field ongoing research is intraoperative 3D ultrasound navigation, treatment studies of spinal diseases, head injuries and neurointensive care. Within eye research, refractive errors and metabolic processes within the eye are studied.

Orthopaedics and RheumatologyOrthopaedics and Rheumatology
The ongoing research within the group of Orthopaedics and Rheumatology is wide-ranging, from the development of orthopaedic implants to studies of rheumatism during pregnancy.
