Project challenges: To understand the origin of dimensional variations in selected forming processes (extrusion, profile bending, and forging) in order to secure improved production robustness for high volume applications. To establish basic knowledge of parameters controlling variations in mechanical properties of extrusions, aiming to reduce the spread in properties. To develop fundamental mathematical models for more accurate simulation of mechanisms controlling quality of formed components. To develop accurate models for prediction of dimensional tolerance capability of components and assemblies.
