Convenient preschool options
There are two parent-run Gløshaugen barnehager (in Norwegian) that are convenient for NTNU employees, but NTNU employees must compete on an equal footing with other parents for places in these preschools. These are at Tyholttunet (in English, with link to application in Norwegian) and Prestegårdsjordet (in Norwegian, with link to application form in Norwegian).

NTNU students can obtain childcare through SiT kindergarten.

The Norwegian government's preschool policy is one of the most progressive in the world. One important aspect is that the government has pledged to keep preschools affordable: Fees that parents pay are capped at a monthly maximum. The monthly fee covers between 22 percent and 30 percent of costs, while the rest of the money is provided by the government.

Trondheim also has full preschool coverage, which means that virtually anyone who needs childcare can be certain of a place for his or her child.

Help for non-Norwegians

Most of the forms and information about preschools (barnehager) in Trondheim are only found in Norwegian. The city of Trondheim encourages people who need help with filling out forms to come to the city's Day Care Institution Service offices for help.
