MedIm Travel and Research Grant 2012

– MedIm Travel- and Research Grants: 16 grants, each of NOK 50.000, to PhD candidates in the field of medical imaging

MedIm - Norwegian Research School in Medical Imaging will distribute 16 grants, each of NOK 50.000, to PhD candidates with research projects within the core areas of MedIm. The aim of these grants is to enhance the recipient's potential to achieve the best possible research training. Among possible purposes are international research visits, operational costs in relation to experiments, and procurement of non-standard equipment needed for the candidate's research. Applicants must be affiliated with one of the MedIm partner institutions: NTNU, the University of Oslo, the University of Bergen or the University of Tromsø. The grants will be equally distributed among the partners.

Applicants should demonstrate particular potential and talent. The project must relate to one or several of the core areas of MedIm: ultrasound, MRI, PET, CT, image guided surgery, advanced biomedical microscopy or bionanotechnology. Please consult our web-page for further information on our multidisciplinary approach. Priority will be given to candidates who have quite recently embarked on their PhD project.

For example, the grant may be used towards:

  • expenses in connection with international research visits (not for conference trips)
  • running costs for experiments or data collection
  • procurement of necessary research equipment

Use of the funding must comply with the following conditions:

  • the purpose must be related to the PhD candidate's organized research training
  • the purpose must be recommended by the supervisor
  • this funding may neither be used to cover salaries or salary supplements, nor standard equipment normally provided by employer

The application must include a brief description of the applicant, the project, references to the applicant's recent publications, as well as a plan for using the grant. The application should not exceed 2 pages. In addition, a cover letter (maximum 1 page) signed by both the applicant and the supervisor must be submitted. Both applicant and supervisor must be registered in MedIm's database at Please submit the application and the cover letter, not exceeding three pages combined, as one single .pdf file to the MedIm project management. Applications failing to conform to any of the above will not be evaluated.

It will be expected that the funds will be used during the period from autumn 2012 to the end of 2013. Recipients are required to submit a report on the use of these funds by the end of 2013. All applicants are expected to participate with abstract in MedIm's 4th National PhD conference in Medical Imaging. The winners will be announced among the participants of this event in Trondheim, 28-29 November 2012.
