Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary science with roots in most of the traditional scientific disciplines. This is reflected by the variety of research related to nanoscience and nanotechnology at NTNU. It is also to a large extent a cross disciplinary science, since the traditional disciplines tend to converge at the nanoscale.
NTNU has research activities within the following areas:
- Nanostructured materials
- Nanoelectronics, nanomagnetism and nanophotonics
- Nanotechnology for energy and the environment
- Theoretical modelling
Several of these areas tend to overlap and consequently some of the projects may be of relevance to more than one of them. Nanotechnology and nanoscience is to a large extent of fundamental nature. However, the potential for future applications is large. It is therefore the aim of NTNU NanoLab to be a promoter in the process of establishing new industrial initiatives in Norway.
