Jazz graduates

Mathias Eick was in January 2007 awarded the prestigious International Jazz Award for New Talent. The IJFO International Jazz Award for New Talent recognizes an emerging artist whose promise is collectively recognized by the IJFO members and IAJE. The award is intended to provide a catalyst for the recipient's career, and includes a fully-funded international tour.

Eick began playing classical piano at age five but turned to trumpet by age six. He attended the Trondheim Music Conservatory at NTNU for four years. Eick has participated in a large number of groups in Norway, from Jaga Jazzist where he, in addition to trumpet, plays acoustic bass, vibraphone, and piano, to the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra with Chick Corea and Pat Metheny.
