Optimal Energy Absorption and Protection
From a design perspective explosion, impact, collisions and weapon actions may be classified as accidental loads. These events are becoming increasingly important for a number of civil and military engineering applications and for the safety of the citizen in general. Since it is both difficult and expensive to validate and optimise protective structures against accidental loads experimentally, the product development is increasingly carried out in virtual environments by use of the finite element method (FEM) in order to have a safe and cost effective design. Finally, these new designs need to be validated through high-precision experimental tests involving advanced instrumentation.
The main objective with the OptiPro research programme is to be able to design safer, more cost effective and lightweight protective structures for both civilian and military applications using advanced computational tools.
