Ecology, Ethology and Evolutionary Biology
- Specialisation
The subject combination Ecology, Ethology and Evolutionary Biology is an excellent choice for those interested in animals and plants - and in the intricate interaction between individuals, species and colonies displayed in nature.
The subjects in this combination focus on factors and mechanisms regulating the spreading and abundance of animals and plants (ecology), animal behaviour and psychology (ethology), and the development of species, their colonies and their changes (evolution).
The Department of Biology includes several research groups working within ecology, evolution and ethology. For our students, this implies having lecturers who are highly interested in their fields and thereby give high-standard lectures. It also means that students have multiple options when finding a topic for their theses.
Master’s Degree
Perhaps you are planning on taking a Master's degree after finishing your Bachelor’s degree? The subject combination Ecology, Ethology and Evolutionary Biology is compulsory for those interested in a Master’s Degree in Biology within the following fields of study:
- Master’s Degree in Biology, Ecology
- Master’s Degree in Biology, Ethology
- Master’s Degree in Biology, Evolutionary Biology and Systematics/Taxonomy
Under the assumption that you choose suitable subjects you can also qualify for admission to the following Master’s Degree programs:
- Master’s Degree in Biology
- Master’s Degree in Marine Coastal Development
- Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management
Definitions:
What is evolution?
Evolution is a change, and biological evolution can be defined as changes in the characteristics of a population - a group of animals - over time.
What is ecology?
Ecology is the study of the factors and criteria that decide the organisms’ spreading and number.
What is ethology?
Ethology is the study of animal behaviour. Ethology deals with the animals’ behaviour in their natural environments in particular, while animal psychology is based on studies of animals in laboratories.
