Comparative Studies of Religion
The bachelor's programme in Comparative Studies of Religion provides insight into the basic beliefs and practices of various religious traditions. The programme of study also proposes to provide an understanding of the underlying historical development of different religions.
Furthermore, the programme seeks to provide insight into problems that occur in the interface between religion and other social and cultural phenomena. Students are therefore supposed to develop a further understanding and awareness of religion and positions on life as important elements in Norwegian and international societies.
The aim of the programme is to develop the students' knowledge of religious ideas and religious practices, as well as provide them with insight into the function of religion and its focal position interpreting life. The programme of study also proposes to provide a framework of values and levels of understanding for individuals and communities.
The research community places emphasis on developing the students' ability to consider religion and religious traditions as social, cultural, and psychological phenomena in a coherent and scholarly manner, as well as extending the students' skills in communicating on these questions.
