About the course
Course content
(I) Local planning as an administrative activity in a historical and general perspective, and the way it is defined today in the planning and construction regulations. The various roles of the players - cooperation and participation. (II) Planning in cities and towns/villages in the light of the requirements and possible solutions for people and functions, with emphasis on local environments, availability and the relationship to natural surroundings and infrastructure. (III) Situation and requirement analyses as a basis for planning. (IV) Developing suggestions within a master plan, framework conditions and the subsequently carrying out of the plan.
Learning outcome
The project-based work in the course will enable the students to understand the requirements that are part of the local planning, and work out regulation and building plans for different situations in an urban area.
Learning methods and activities
Exercises work in groups, lectures, discussion. The exercises must be handed in and approved prior to exams, and will count towards the final grade.

The course partly builds on course AAR4210 Civil and Environmental Engineering 1 - Physical Planning and the Environment or equivalent courses.
