About the course
Course content
A building is to be designed up to the pre-project stage. The design work is to be based on a complete programme with topics from cultural life, the health and social sector, education and research, administration, trade and industry. The course will focus on an holistic approach to architectural design, including structure, construction, energi consumption and fireprotection.
Learning outcome
The course is to give insight into practical utilization of design methods as well as experience from the design of a major and complex building in an urban environment. The emphasis is on total architectonic solutions. Recommended supplementary course is AAR4950 Programming and evaluation of Buildings, AAR4935 Light and Space or AAR4960 Virtual building.
Learning methods and activities
The course is organized in 3 phases where the students work in different constellations focusing on diffferent aspects of the project. Phase 1 is a architects competition with emphasis on decisions and effective sommunication. The second phase is the team-period where the project is developed further in cooperation with students from department of building engineering. The third phase is the individual period where the student chooses a theme of special interest to be developed in detail. Excursions and seminars are held with visits to relevant places and construction sites. Individual tutorials, group critiques and seminars are given.
Required previous knowledge
Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent. The Design course must be taken together with AAR4903 Architectural design/Complex programs - theory and method. This is an intregrated part of the Design course. Registration deadline: 15. november.
