About the course
Course content
The courses is an introduction to the use of geographical information for physical planning purposes, and comprise methods for data collection, data management and maintenance, data modelling and statistical methods, analysis and presentation. The course will cover use of public databases, made available by The Norwegian Mapping authority, by other public institutions or joint management projects. In addition the course will cover a selection of methods for own data collection.
Emphasis is on design and use of databases, including geodatabases, and use of diverse standards for data exchange. Methods for presentation will cover both traditional techniques, and recent web-based solutions. Software like MS Access, ArcGIS and SPSS will be applied, in addition to web-clients for collection, presentation and distribution of planning-relevant data.
Learning outcome
The students shall get training in how to use ICT in urban planning and urban planning projects.

Recommended previous knowledge
The course presupposes basic knowledge of GIS in urban planning as taught in e.g. AAR4215 Local planning and AAR4220 Master planning.
