About the course

Course content

Surveying is an important tool in the general understanding of the culture of building. Especially in foreign cultures architectural surveying is an effective means for this.

Learning outcome

To learn basic traditional surveying technique by doing. Possibly studying new digital techniques. To learn to know traditional, Tibetan architecture in details.

Learning methods and activities

Working in small groups on location with practical surveying. Editing (possibly on own computer) on location. Lessons will be given in English if some international students follow the course.

Compulsory assignments

  • Fieldwork in Tibet

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent. The course is associated with the courses AAR4520 Town Houses in a Unique Foreign Cultural Context - Tibet and AAR4809 Architectural observation, -reflection and –analysis.
