About the course

Course content

The theoretical basis for the design processes, and the relationship between premise and solution are all emphasized.
Design methods and programmes are studies by considering specific architectural examples.
The notions of control and quality assurance are thoroughly explained in relation to function analyses, idea and concept development, modelling processes and their physical execution.

Learning outcome

The course will provide knowledge about methods for systematic development of architectural projects for major and complex buildings. It will give insight into the architect's tasks as a design manager for interdisciplinary teams.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and colloquia, case studies as group work and individual work reports with given requirements for the content of topics and mode of presentation
Compendium and collection of examples.

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent. Basic knowledge of architecture, equivalent to course AAR4465 Architectural Design of Large Buildings.
