About the course
Course content
The Student will learn about and understand the properties of wood through a sereis of seminars and lectures and extensive studies of built works from different modern and historic periods. An excursion in Norway to study relevant building examples is an important part of the Course.
Learning outcome
The Student should know tradition and background for modern wooden architecture, get knowledge about important reference works and architects within this tradition. He/she shouls acquire knowledge about all relevant construction methods in modern wooden architecture andf hav insight in production processes behind wooden building elements, the potensial and limitations in these.
The student should have the necessary basic knowledge about the general properties of wood and about the different wood species related to strength, colour, surface, aging processes and area of utilisation - to be able to choose the right material for the specified use.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, seminars, workshops and excursion. A compendium from the excursion is produced and an individual essay with a limited theme.

Required previous knowledge
Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent. Basic knowledge of Architecture. The Theory course is close connected to the Design Course Wooden Architecture A. Registration deadline: 1. juni.
