About the course

Course content

Building materials and components and their impact on GHG emissions due to production, transport, use, reuse and demolition. Low-tech vernacular materials, recycling of components and design for reuse. Design of new high-tech components and materials aiming to achieve zero emission. Design and evaluation tools. Co-operation with the Industrial Ecology Programme and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology.

Learning outcome

The students will learn terminology and classifications related to the environmental impact of building materials and elements in a life-cycle perspective. They will also learn to use various tools and classifications to analyse the GHG emissions related to building materials and elements.

Lectures, exercises and presentations; discussions

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, engineering or urban planning; bachelor in architecture, engineering or urban planning; or equivalent.
