About the course

Course content

Knowledge about the caracter, the application and the aesthetics of construction materials.
1. Caracter : Structure, durability, strength, tactility, and expression.
2. Application : Treatment, detailing, economy, use of resourses and FED.Consequences related to energy - and environtment friendly construction.
3. Working methods where knowledge and understanding of materials are central in the creative process to find architectonical implications.

Learning outcome

To give a base of understanding and knowledge for each one.
This in a way which strengten the ability to make concious decisions and to be operational in the working process.

Learning methods and activities

Method : There will be study work in different groups of 2 students during the course. Each group focus on one single material and study various qualities from it. To learn ways to apply knowledge, there will also be small project works.
In addition, each one is obliged to share there knowledge with the rest of the course members.
After the course a textbook with the materials from the period will be published. Lessons will be given in English if some international students follow the course. Teaching as self studies and in a consentrated period of 3 weeks in April/Mai ( 5 days a week).

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent. Registration deadline: 1. december.
