Course content
The subjects offer a general understanding of the relation between place design, architecture and the human perseption , cognition and assesement of a place and its architecture. The Gap between lay people and experts is discussed. Programming, planning, design and evaluation may be based on an understanding of place context, and lay peoples and experts preferences. Each subject is followed by a theoretical og practical exercise. The subject deals with theoretical and empirical knowledge within the mulltidisciplinary fields Environmental Aesthetics, Environmental Psychology and Place Theory and Architecture. Place persepsjon, cognition, consciousness-raisingand assessment are integrated in the exercises and in a place study.
Learning outcome
The subjects offer insights into theories and methods within environmental aesthetics, architecture and place studies.
Learning methods and activities
Seminars presenting and discussing theories and methods witin environmental aesthetics, architecture- and place cognition and assessment. The students present their exercises and they are discussed and evaluated during the course. A place study is implemented as goupe- or individual work.
Required previous knowledge
Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent, and planning or social sciences. The subjets should be studied in relation to Architectural Design, Urban Design and Planning courses or social subjects dealing with people and their physical environment. Registration deadline: 1. december.
