Course content

The subject is an introduction to questions in the theory of knowledge. it is divided into two parts.
In part 1 the students get an overview of important tendencies in the theory of knowledge. This comprizes important dividing lines and debates between the tendencies, their most important problems and their ideas concerning valid knowledge, ways of arguing, reasons and truth.
The possible application of these discussions onto the kind of knowledge that is important to the works of architects, is stressed. This is a kind of knowledge that is articulated in and through the architect´s creative work. The aim of the subject is to afford a basis for a reflexive attitude towards what are the demands for a valid presentation of this peculiar field of knowledge. As a basis for this discussion, the subject also studies parallell problems and how they are treated in other fields of knowledge.
In part 2 the students examines different theories of architecture in the light of the general epistemological discussion. Amongst others, one here studies the epistemological character of different theories of architecture, how they understand themselves, the creative work and the kind of knowledge that is being articualted thorugh this.
