About the course
Course content
An advanced course in selected themes within European literature from Antiquity to the Early Romantic period.
The course may focus on a specific period, a trend, or a genre (the tragedies of Antiquity, the Gothic horror novel, the literature of Classicism, modernist poetry, the picaresque tradition of the novel etc.)
The course may also focus on inter-aesthetic connections within a specific period (for example the art, music and literature of the Baroque) or the mutual influence and adaptability between literature and other media.
Learning outcome
The course will provide students with advanced insight of selected themes within European literature, from Antiquity to the Early Romantic period.
Learning methods and activities
Seminars. Active student participation is expected.
Course requirements:
Approved reading list and approved seminar presentation (approx. 15 minutes) or written assignment (approx. 4-5 pages).
Form of assessment:
2 week written assignment of 12-15 pages.

Recommended previous knowledge
Basic courses in comparative literature or other relevant coursework equivalent to 60 credits.
