About the course
Course content
The source material from historic time is rich and varied, and the main focus of the course will be on the archaeological material and in which contexts this material appear. At the same time the course will focus on the source material`s connections to written and oral sources. There is two alternative curriculums: 1. General historical archaeology, and 2. Historical archaeology emphasizing maritime archaeology.
Learning outcome
Through analysis and interpretation of material cultural remains and the connections they form part of, the students will be given a systematic insight into the past, from the beginning of the Middle Ages to modern times.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. The exam consist of a written assignment of maximum 3500 words and a written exam of 6 hours. Both parts must be passed in the same term and there will be given one grade only. If one failes, both the assignment and the written exam must be completed again in the same term. "Guidelines for written assignment" is to be found on the department's web site.

Course materials
The required reading list will be available at the beginning of the semester. Students are not allowed to consult any text-books during the 6 hour exam.
