Course content
The course provides an introduction to theoretical approaches to written communication: How are texts developed? How do we use texts to create meaning? How are we influenced by texts? The course also provides practical training in developing, describing and analysing texts in various contexts.
Learning outcome
The student should develop a deeper understanding of written communication understood as a social activity. The student should be able to demonstrate basic skills in developing, analysing and understanding text as interaction in context. The student should also develop competency in responding to developing texts.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and group exercises. Basis for evaluation: Compulsory assignments must be submitted and approved before the student is permitted to take the written examination. The length of each submitted assignment should be 5-10 pages long (A4 sheet, 1.5 line spacing). Under special circumstances, the department may consent to a written home examination; an application must be submitted to and approved by the department.
