About the course
Course content
The course gives an introduction to central theories about the functions of verbal communication in society and culture: communication processes and patterns in homes, schools, administration and business, the importance of verbal communication for development of identity and social relations, and how verbal communication problems in selected areas are addressed in applied linguistics.
Learning outcome
The aim of the course is to give an introduction to the relationship between theoretical ways of understanding on the one hand and practically relevant research questions and methods on the other.

Lectures and seminars.
More on assessment: Compulsory assignments must be submitted and approved before the student is permitted to take the written examination. The size of the submitted material depends partly on the subject, but is usually between 5-10 typed A4-pages (line spacing 1,5). In special cases, students may apply to the Department for alternative assessment in the form of a take-home exam to substitute the written exam.
