About

About the course

Course content

Starting point: The Master's thesis is an independent academic work which is carried out under supervision. Normally the thesis will be thematically linked to one of the Master's courses. A plan for the course is formulated in consultation with one of the lecturers at the institute. The plan (which describes the subject, core problem and method) has to be approved by the institute, and a supervisor has to be appointed before the work starts.

Learning outcome

The aim of the course is that the students are going to carry out and document an independent research assignment under supervision, and to document through a Master`s thesis that satisfying the demands of academic publication.

Learning methods and activities

Individual work under supervision.
The size of the thesis will normally be between 80 and 100 printed A4 pages, with 1.5 line spacing. A paper where students have worked cooperatively can be approved as a Master's thesis if the contribution of each candidate is clearly defined and equals the work and size of a normal Master's thesis. Assessment includes the thesis and a final oral exam. More on assessment: The oral exam may adjust the grade on the thesis. The deadline for submitting the thesis in the spring term is 1st May, and in the autumn term 15th October.
