Course - Building Materials and Compartment Fires - BA8106
Building Materials and Compartment Fires
About
About the course
Course content
The course comprises the following items: Materials reaction to fire, material properties at high temperatures, relations between material properties and compartment fires, modelling of compartment fires, computer programs to simulate compartment fires. The course will cover both combustible and noncombustible materials, and thereby give a material knowledge basis for fire safety engineering and design of structures.
Learning outcome
The scope of the course is to give knowledge about properties and behaviour of important building and construction materials during fires, how to model a compartment fire and to select design fires in fire safety engineering.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, colloquia, self studies, preparation of an individual project report. The topic of the report will be related to the research areas covered by the course, and it may be related to the actual PhD project of each student. The lectures and exercises are given in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
