Course content

The course gives an introduction to methods for registering, managing, and descriptive presentation of data materials. Statistical concepts related to sampling, probability, and distribution will be lectured, as well as basic statistical analyses such as t-tests, chi-square test, correlation, and simple linear regression and their non-parametric alternatives. Through exercises and group work, the students will get an introduction to the practical application of methods and analyzes.

Learning outcome

Students have knowledge of basic statistical concepts, methods and analysis, recognizing the fundamental principle for research design.
The student can apply basic statistical methods and analysis in practical exercises.

Learning methods and activities

Up to 48 hours lectures/exercises. Exchange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.

Compulsory assignments

  • 70% participation in exercises

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Bevegelsesvitenskap (BBEV)
Medisin, ikke-ordinære studenter (MDDIV)
Samfunnsvitenskap (BSV)

Required previous knowledge

The course is reserved for students admitted to the bachelor's programme in Human Movement Science.
