About the course

Course content

A central topic is the importance of physical activity and sports in disease and injury prevention. Different models for health promotion will be discussed, as will the potential for disease prevention and treatment based on findings from epidemiologic studies and experiments. The teaching will be based on frequently occurring diseases (e.g. diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases) and mental health. Lessons will also cover eating disorders, sport injuries and musculoskeletal disorders.

Learning outcome

The students should acquire research based knowledge related to associations between physical activity and health.

Learning methods and activities

42 hours lectures/exercises/group work. The course is reserved for students admitted to the major in Human Movement and Sports Science. Exchange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission

Compulsory assignments

  • 70 % participation in exercises.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Samfunnsvitenskap (BSV)

Required previous knowledge

Four of the following courses: BEV1001, BEV1002, BEV1004, BEV1005, BEV1006, BEV1007.
