Course content

The master thesis is an independent piece of work finalizing the master education. The thesis is expected to fulfil requirements of relevance and students are expected to contribute to new knowledge.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate significant insight into relevant and updated research literature and theories for the presented research question.
  • Demonstrate understanding and proficiency in relevant research methods.

Skills:

  • Know how to formulate research questions, find and use relevant literature, set up and follow an appropriate research design to collect data, analyze and draw conclusions based upon the research process.

General competence:

  • Under supervision know how to plan and implement an independent research project in line with accepted research ethical norms.
  • Through the work on the master thesis develop ability to critically reflect on own and others work, including ability to assess theoretical and practical implications of a variety of research- and project reports.

Learning methods and activities

The master thesis is an independent research project under academic supervision. A supervisor will be appointed based on submitted project proposal. The thesis should be handed in in groups of maximum two students or independently.

Further on evaluation

Submission: End of May. The date is given in studentweb before the registration deadline 1 February. If special causes arise (e.g. illness), students can apply for a deferral until 31 August the same year.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Economics and Business Administration (ØAMSC)

Required previous knowledge

Exams in compulsory courses, as well as necessary exams in main profile and methodology must be passed by the registration deadline 1 February. Students can apply for exemption from the prerequisites if they lack up to 7.5 credits. The application must be justified.

The course is only available to students who have the right to study on the study programme Master in Business Administration at NTNU Business School.
