About

About the course

Course content

The course provides introduction and guidance on how to plan, produce, and present a theatrical performance. Instruction and tutoring are based on the interplay between practical work and theoretical reflection.
The course requires the attendance and engagement of the student, particularly in the period of production and at seminars.

Learning outcome

The course will form the basis for developing an applied competence in drama production. The course will provide the students with a practical understanding of basic elements, devices, and choices of dramaturgy, through working on a theatrical production.

Learning methods and activities

The course uses theatre production as a model for learning. Instruction and tutoring is based on the interplay between practical work and theoretical reflection. For support in the learning process and to document reflection on academic issues, the production groups must each develop a production report. Prior to the production period, various seminars and lectures will be arranged aiming to provide a first introduction to applied dramaturgy, production planning etc.

Course requirements:
Compulsory practical seminars, production work and tutoring - in order to take the examination attendance must be minimum 80%.

More on the form of assessment:
The final assessment of the course is a group examination using an external sensor. The examination consists of a performance of the group's theatrical production, the production report of the group, and an oral examination for adjustment. The group presentation counts for 2/3 of the grade, the report counts for 1/3. Both must be passed. The oral examination will adjust the final grade.

The examination production is based on a text, an idea, or a theme, and is developed in collaboration with a group. At the beginning of the production/examination period the students will be given the text. The examination report defines the scope and the basis of the theatre production, the production report, and the group make-up.

Students are required to keep posted on messages from the department or teacher at It's learning and at course web pages or bulletin boards.
