About the course

Course content

The course will be comprised of an introductory part and a production part. Through lectures and practical seminars problems and methods concerning forms and methods for collective and context-based theatre for adolescents will be treated. Using “devised theatre” as a production platform and a model, typical issues will be: collaborative production methods, site-specific theatre, forms and subjects of theatre for young people, and target-oriented workshops in drama pedagogy. drama pedagogy. In the production part the groups will, under close supervision, be working with target groups, devising, and evaluation through the writing of production reports. The group also develops and presents a performance for adolescents.

Learning outcome

DRA2002 Drama/Theatre and culture production is a further study of the forms of production and performances relevant to projects of adolescent drama and theatre. Students will develop a pedagogical competency in the art as actors, instructors, and producers related to directing projects within the area of school and leisure. Students will develop a competency in cultural criticism related to the connection between community context, target group, and cultural production as a result of working with process and product. - Students will develop an increased understanding of structuring games and dramaturgy with an emphasis on the importance of choosing location for game playing, target audience, thematic structure, and form. - Students will develop an increased understanding of the relation between fictional development and the thematic structure found in adolescent culture. - Students will develop an increased understanding of working with external collaborative partners, reference groups, and the group process. - Students will develop skills in documenting important choices in the process, and reflect on these in the light of theory and experience.

Learning methods and activities

Instruction is comprised of lectures, practical seminars, and group and individual tutoring. Lectures, seminars, and practical exercises provide an introduction to relevant academic issues, types of work and forms of expression, as well as production models. With respect to planning, practicing, and performing projects, students are offered tutoring individually and in groups. DRA2002 is a practical and theoretical course that requires attendance during both the introductory- and the production sections. Scope and placement of the group project will be adapted with respect to the form of the work, collaboration with external partners, tutors, and access to work rooms and equipment. Course requirements: In order to take the final examination instruction attendance is required; that is, practical seminars and exercises, preparation meeting, tutoring, and performances. The minimum requirement of attendance is 80%.
More on the form of assessment: An individual production report of about 3000 words weighted 1/3, and a performance assessed with a group grade weighted 2/3, as well as an individual examination adjusting the total grade. The students are required to make themselves familiar with the result of exercises at the department bulletin board. The students are required to keep posted on messages from the department or teacher at It's learning and at course web pages or bulletin boards

Basis courses in drama and theatre or equivalent.
Admission to the Bachelor's programme in Drama and Theatre.
