About the course

Course content

The course connects basic academic and aesthetic issues to relevant research and development tasks in theatre studies. The course addresses the emergence of the academic discipline of drama and theatre studies, along with more recent trends in the discipline in a national and international perspective.

Learning outcome

During the course the student will acquire a fundamental insight into the theory of science in arts and humanities as well as basic issues in art philosophy, and they will get an introduction to how topics in the theory of science and aesthetics are approached in drama and theatre studies. The students should be capable of using theory in relation to academic case studies or research ideas.

Learning methods and activities

The course is taught in lectures and seminars.

About the assessment: Students are required to write an essay (4000-5000 words) on a topic of their choice or on a given topic that is related to the teaching. The essay is assessed by an internal cencor with a pass or fail grade.

Students are also required to keep updated on relevant information from the department or course director via It's learning, Innsida, course web pages, or the department's bulletin boards.

Required previous knowledge

Bachelor's degree in Drama and Theatre. Admission to the Master's programme in Drama and Theatre.
