About

About the course

Course content

The Master's thesis is an independent academic investigation into an issue in the section's academic fields.

The Master's thesis may be based on a wide and varied selection of sources and differ in research design: text-based studies of a historical and theoretical kind, field studies of an ethnographic character (for instance studies of one's own or others' cultural work), or studies of performances and processes within drama and theatre.

The scope of the Master's thesis is 80-120 pages.

Learning outcome

Students will achieve competency in a focussed area that enables them to teach, tutor, and lead adolescents and adult pupils/students in programs, developments, and concepts created by others or by themselves. Students will come away with an overview of historical and contemporary academic tendencies in pedagogy, art, and theory, and be able to remain critical regarding practice, planning, and literature within their academic field of study.
The course will provide a first taste of undertanding the demands of academic research, providing students with the basis for devising and initiating an individual research project.
The Master's programme should allow students to achieve of the dual goal of a Master's degree; to conduct further academic study at a high level with a clear vocational direction – as well as being the first step on the way to becoming a researcher.

Learning methods and activities

Tutoring will be provided in connection with the work on the assignment.

More on the form of assessment:
The candidate will be notified of the result of the thesis with ample time before the final examination (whether the thesis has received a passing grade or not - a passing grade is better than F).

The concluding examination for the Master's degree in this variant consists of the following parts:

- A lecture of about 30 minutes from the candidate presented in an open forum regarding the work of the Master's thesis.
- An oral examination on the thesis lasting a minimum of 30 minutes. The oral examination may adjust the grade.
