Course content
Working methods in IT research, innovation and dissemination. Insights in a wide spectrum of research methods relevant for a cross-disciplinary field like IT. Overview of ongoing research in the department (IDI). Academic writing and publication, oral presentations.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: Understand how different research methods supplement each other. Overview of IT as a research area in general, and specifically of the ongoing research at the department. Insights in research ethics and academic honesty.
Skills: Academic writing and refereeing skills, as well as public presentations and discussions of research works.
General competence: Be able to make well-reflected choices of research methods relative to the research problem at hand.
Learning methods and activities
Seminars and exercises, which include both written assignments and oral presentations by the students themselves. Preparation for and participation in the department's PhD conference.
Required previous knowledge
This course is only available to PhD students in Information Technology.
