About the course

Course content

Architecture of database systems. Query optimization. Parallel and distributed database systems. Temporal databases. Data mining and data warehousing. New database architectures and query operators.

Learning outcome

To give students introduction to some advanced topics within database systems, and a bsis for understanding topics in current database research.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and project. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a final written test (75%) and project (25%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. Written exam can be changed to oral exam at delayed exams (continuation exam).
