About the course

Course content

The course gives students an introduction to central areas related to the study of modern English language, for example morphology, semantics, syntax, phonetics, phonology and pragmatics. The different aspects are dealt with through discussions of basic ideas and themes within the above mentioned subject areas. The course provides the students with concepts and ideas used to describe and analyse the English language, as well as a theoretical insight into the language system.

Learning outcome

Students should develop understanding of essential terms and concepts related to the description of the English language system. Students should also develop their skills in applying this knowledge. Additionally, the course will give students theoretical insight into issues related to the study of the English language.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, group sessions, supervision. It's:learning. The lectures cover central issues in the course, whereas the group sessions give students the opportunity to solve exercises. Supervision is offered in connection to compulsory assignments. It is a prerequisite that the students use It's:learning on a regular basis.

  • 2 written assignments consisting of 4-5 tasks each
