About the course

Course content

The course will focus on issues of translation from an interdiciplinary perspective. Both translation theory advances and semiotic approaches will be discussed. A central issue addressed in the course is the notion of equivalence across languages.

Learning outcome

To develop an awareness of central issues in translation both as a linguistic enterprise and as cultural practice.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures/seminars. The course may be offered in
collaboration with the Department of Scandinavian Studies and Comparative Literature and the Department of Language and Communication Studies. Assessment: Home exam approx. 2500 words/5-6 pages.

Compulsory assignments

  • Oral presentation, approx. 20 minutes
