About the course

Course content

How can we explain the emergence and
development of a European Union (EU)? Why have consolidated nation-states chosen to surrender political sovereignty to supranational institutions? The process of European integration is approached from three different perspectives; the national one, the European one and the international one. While the idea of a united Europe is studied in a long historical perspective, the main emphasis of the course is one the post World War Two period.

Learning outcome

Understanding of the development of the EU and
the conditions that have had an impact on the process of integration.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures/seminars, one compulsory written
assignment, and one written, six hour, final exam.
