FE8100 - Quantum Computation and Quantum Communications
Course content
This course will usually be taught every year, starting in fall 2011 if enough students.
Introduction to quantum mechanics. Density operators. Einstein Podolsky Rosen paradox, Bell's inequality, teleportation. Circuits. Selected algorithms. Quantum information theory. Quantum key distribution. Physical realizations with emphasis on photonic realizations.
Learning outcome
A. Knowledge: To get a basic understanding of theory, principles, and challenges in quantum information science.
B. Skills: To have a basic understanding of theory, principles, and challenges in quantum information science.
C. Competence: Understanding of theory, principles, and challenges in quantum information science - basics for research in the field.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, colloquium, self study, exercises. The course is part of the Norwegian PhD Network on Nanotechnology for Microsystems (www.nano-network.net). If students at other universities or university colleges sign up for the course, the teaching will be performed in 2-3 gatherings throughout the semester, either at UNIK (Kjeller) or Trondheim.
