About the course

Course content

This course will be taught every year, starting in spring 2009.
System On Chip definition; an overview of system description languages; using UML for SOC specification; an introduction to SystemC; specification; co-design; co-verification; On-chip communication: Bus systems and network-on-chip; use of system design tools for complete system simulation.

Learning outcome

To gain an understanding of Systems on Chip, what they are and what characterizes them, how they are specified, designed, built and used. The students should gain sufficient skills in system specification of Systems on Chip in UML and system modeling in SystemC to be able to design systems on chip from the specification level and down to synthesizable hardware and software.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures. Practical, theoretical exercises, and lab exercises which is part of dossier that is evaluated and counts for 40% of final mark. A final exam counts for 60% of final mark. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
