About the course

Course content

The course concentrates on fiction, with emphasis on fiction in film and television.
The specific content of the course can vary from term to term, with different emphasis (theoretical, analytical and historical) within the field of fiction. The course gives special weigths to analytic skills, and analytic perspectives will be foregrounded in writing the term paper.

Learning outcome

The course is designed to develop students' theoretical and analytical skills, and will focus on preparation for their own analytical projects.

Lectures, screenings, and seminars.

Course requirements:
Students must pass an oral presentation before final assessment can be made.

More on assessment: The final assessment is based on a one-week take-home examination where the student, in 10 - 15 pages, answers a collection of exercises. The examination is given a letter grade.

Students are required to check the result of their assignment on the department's bulletin boards.


Students are required to stay updated on any information given by the department or course director; either via It's learning, Innsida, course pages on the web, or on bulletin boards.

Filmvitenskap og medieproduksjon (BFILMPROD)

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the Bachelor's programme in Film Studies or Media Production.
