Course - Experimental Phonetics - FON1122
Experimental Phonetics
About
About the course
Course content
Students conduct a number of basic experimental phonetic investigations, with a focus on evaluating their observations and presenting the results in a sensible and clear manner.
Learning outcome
The course gives an introduction to the equipment and techniques that are used in experimental phonetics. The students will learn how to use the equipment and perform experiments, in addition to studying literature on experimental phonetics. An important sub-goal is to learn how to present experimental results in a report.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, group instructions and laboratory exercises with supervision. The courses may be taught in English or Norwegian, depending on who is teaching it.
Form of assessment: Portfolio (2 written reports) and oral exam.
More on assessment: Mandatory exercises must be approved before the final grade is given. The two written reports in the portfolio are based on the mandatory exercises. Each assignment is assessed individually, but the final grade is based on an overall assessment. In the final grade, the portfolio counts 50% and the oral test 50%. Both the oral test and the portfolio must be passed in order to pass the course. If the course is not passed, the student must retake the part(s) which he/she failed.
