About the course
Course content
This course covers the anatomical, physiological and neurological basis of articulation and auditory perception. Topics dealt with include the anatomy of the lungs, the larynx, the mouth and nose cavities, and the ear. Human speech production will be taught taking the properties of the speech organs as a point of departure.
Learning outcome
The goal of the course is for students to get an understanding of the biological foundations of human speech production.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, group instructions and laboratory exercises with supervision. The course may be taught in English or Norwegian, depending on who is teaching it.
More on assessment: Obligatory assignments and laboratory exercises have to be approved before the student may sit the written exam. In special cases, students can send an application for an oral exam to the Department.
Compulsory assignments
- 3-6 lab exercises
- 2-4 written exercises
Recommended previous knowledge
FON1101 Introduction to Phonetics or equivalent background.
